Can we talk about tent poles snapping in cold weather?

Went camping up near Lake Tahoe last weekend and my poles just gave out at 3 AM. Temps dropped to 18°F and the aluminum got brittle. Had to wrap the break in duct tape and tie it to a tree branch to get through the night. Anyone else had aluminum poles fail on them in freezing temps?

Yeah aluminum gets brittle as hell below freezing. Try fiberglass poles for winter camping.
