3 years of guessing at my sleeping pad's R value until I finally spent $9 on a thermometer and checked ground temp
Turns out my "4 season" pad was only keeping me warm because I was camping in Georgia in July, and now I check the actual ground temp before every trip since a 38 degree night in Shenandoah made me realize the rating on the box was pure fiction, has anyone else found their pad rating was way off from what the ground actually does to you?

Shenandoah at 38 degrees will humble a "4 season" pad real fast.
4
