Wrapping coax ends with the scrap jacket trick saved my 14 unit Brownsville job

I stopped buying those little boot kits and just slide a 2 inch piece of the scrap jacket back over the connector before I crimp, and not one of the 14 units on last week's Brownsville job failed the tone test. Anybody else doing this or am I the only one cheating on boots?
