The 5-minute sanding change I ignored for 8 years, until a client noticed
I used to sand everything by hand after the orbital, took me about 20 minutes per door. Last year I timed that same door at 8 minutes after I finally switched to a random orbit sander with 220 grit and a vacuum hookup. The finish before was fine, but the grain was slightly cloudy and I just thought that was normal. Now the panels look like glass and I get comments on it, but I wonder if I wasted 8 years for no reason. Is hand sanding after the orbital actually a real standard or just an old habit some guys never let go of? Anyone else made a similar switch and felt dumb about the time they lost?
