Soft-close hinge choice: Blum vs generic, wish I'd asked sooner

Had to pick hinges for a 14-door kitchen reno last month, went with the cheap generics to save $180. First week was fine, now half of them slam shut like the dampener already gave up. Gonna bite the bullet on Blum for the bathroom vanity, anyone else notice the knockoffs die that fast or did I just get a bad batch?

I replaced 12 soft-close hinges on my apartment doors two years ago, all the cheap ones from the hardware store with the little plastic cylinder on the arm. They held up for about five months before two of them started hissing and slamming, which woke up my neighbor every time I shut the bathroom door. The leaking oil on the hinge arm was the biggest giveaway, that black gunk started dripping down the frame. Did you check for any oil stains or residue around the hinge pin on yours? That'll tell you real quick if they're actually dead or just stuck, and if it's leaking that fast, I'd demand my money back from the store, not just eat the loss. Alright, maybe I'm just bitter because I've got a closet door that sounds like a gunshot every night when I get off shift.
