Pro tip: a guy at the lumber yard in Tacoma told me to stop sanding past 180 grit
I tried it on a batch of maple doors and the stain took way more even than my usual 220 finish. Now I'm wondering how much sandpaper I've been wasting for 12 years, what grit do you all stop at?
Wait, 12 years of going to 220 and you never once had somebody tell you to stop earlier? That just seems off to me. Every old timer I ever worked around would yell at you for burning through paper like that. I get stuck in my own habits too but dang, somebody should have said something years ago. How did the staining part never tip you off before now?
