Glue I swore was snake oil actually saved my pantry job

I spent 20 years using the same yellow PVA for everything, figured the fancy new polyurethane stuff was just marketing for weekend warriors. Then last spring I got a pantry cabinet job in Austin where the client wanted floating shelves holding cast iron pans. My usual glue and pocket screws kept pulling loose on the test pieces, so I grabbed a bottle of the expensive gap-filling stuff out of desperation. That little 8 ounce bottle cost 18 bucks, but those shelves have held up through 6 months of heavy use without as much as a creak. Now I keep a small stash in the truck for anything with weight or weird moisture, but I still use the cheap stuff for basic boxes. Anyone else find a product they roasted for years that actually earned its spot in the shop?

Shoot, I was right there with you. I used to call expensive glue a waste of gas money, pure hobby shop hype. But a buddy talked me into trying some for a repair on my own door frame, and it grabbed onto that split wood like it had been waiting for it. Now I keep the fancy stuff for anything load bearing or iffy, and I don't feel guilty about it one bit.
