A drawer front split on me during install in Tucson and I had to think fast
I was finishing a set of cherry cabinets for a customer in Tucson when I heard a small crack while setting the last drawer front. The rail screw had split the wood right along the grain, about 2 inches long, and the customer was standing in the doorway watching. I pulled the piece, drilled a relief hole, and worked some glue into the split with a thin card, then clamped it while I finished the rest of the run. It dried tight enough that you cannot see it now, but it taught me to always pre-drill cherry even when I think the screw will bite fine. Does anyone here use a different fix for splits that show up right at the end of a job?
