My old shop lead said never buy a used grinder without pulling the plate, and he was right
Back in 2019 I almost bought a Hobart grinder off a guy in Sacramento for $600. My lead Ray looked at it for 30 seconds and said pull the plate before you hand over a dime. I did, and the auger was scored to hell and the plate was dished out about a quarter inch in the middle. Ray said "that machine ground bone for a decade and nobody ever dressed it." Walked away and found a different one two towns over for $450 that runs clean to this day. Now I want to know what other used equipment checks people swear by. What do you look at first on a used band saw or stuffer before you pay?
