He told me I could buy the same brand faucet online for half the price if I picked a discontinued color, which I did. Has anyone else found a simple trick like that from just chatting with a stranger?

You ever notice how people are just naturally helpful when you stop to actually talk to them? That's something I've been paying attention to lately. We're all so glued to our phones looking up reviews and prices that we forget the guy standing next to us might already know the shortcut. My dad used to chat up everyone in line at the store and he'd come home with all these random tips that saved him money or time. It's like we used to rely on each other more before the internet made us think we could figure everything out alone. That stranger probably felt good passing along a trick he learned the hard way too.
