My uncle swore the envelope system would fail, 8 months and $2,400 later I owe him a steak dinner
My uncle Rick has been a bank guy for like 25 years and when I told him at Thanksgiving that I was going all cash in envelopes he straight up laughed and said I'd quit by March. He said nobody under 40 sticks with it and I was just mad about my credit card bill, which, fair, but still. So I split my budget into 6 envelopes, groceries, gas, fun, eating out, dog stuff, and whatever's left, and I swear the weird part is I started sleeping better because I couldn't just tap my card and forget. The eating out envelope was the eye opener, I had $80 for the whole month and blew it in 9 days the first time, so now I cook on Sundays. Anyway it's been 8 months and I've got $2,400 sitting in a savings account that used to just vanish into DoorDash. Uncle Rick still calls it my weird little wallet thing but he stopped laughing. Has anyone else had a family member doubt their system and then quietly come around?
