My big freezer inventory spreadsheet took longer than the actual savings
I kept tossing out frozen leftovers because I forgot about them. So I decided to list everything in my chest freezer, thinking it would take an afternoon. It actually took five separate sessions over two weeks because the weather kept warming up and I had to work in bursts. The list finally stuck when I taped a whiteboard to the lid and wrote the date each item went in. Has anyone else found that simple paper lists beat fancy apps for tracking what is buried at the bottom?

My buddy Mike tried this with his garage freezer. He spent a whole Saturday typing everything into a spreadsheet, color coded by meat, veg, and whatever else. Two weeks later he found a bag of chili from last January under three pizza boxes and it wasn’t even on his list because he forgot to add it. He gave up on the computer and just wrote "PULL EVERYTHING OUT BY MARCH" in sharpie on a sticky note. That sticky note has outlasted three different apps he tried since.
