Just realized my old grocery system was costing me an extra $200 a month
I used to just wander the store and grab whatever looked good, which meant a lot of impulse buys and wasted food. Six months ago I started planning meals on Sunday and writing a strict list. Now I spend about $80 a week for two people instead of $130. Anyone else find that a list stops the random junk from ending up in your cart?

Wow, I thought lists were a waste of time until I tried it.

Seriously, @diana829, same thing happened to me. I used to think writing stuff down was pointless when I could just remember it. Then my brain started dropping tasks like it was hot. Started making a simple list each morning. It completely changed my week. The trick is keeping it short and actually looking at it. Now I feel off if I don't do it.

Totally get this, it's a game changer for real. My partner and I were the same, just tossing random stuff in the cart every trip. We started doing the meal plan and list thing too, and it cut our bill way down. The real kicker was how much less food we threw out, which felt good and saved cash. Sticking to the list is hard at first, but you get used to it. Now going without a list feels like asking for trouble lol.
