Found a $7 hostel in Antigua by booking the day after I arrived, not before
Three summers ago I flew into Guatemala City with no plan except a rough idea of where to sleep. I spent the first night in a $25 hotel near the airport because I was too nervous to wing it, and that chewed up a big chunk of my daily budget. The next morning I took a chicken bus to Antigua and just walked around asking hostels if they had beds, instead of booking online. Walk-ins got me a dorm spot for 55 quetzales, about $7, because the places hate empty bunks and drop the price the same day. Has anyone else found that showing up in person beats the booking apps, or did I just get lucky?
