Remember getting that same advice from a guy in Lisbon. I had a tiny backpack but it weighed a ton from all the "just in case" stuff. Realized I was basically paying to carry my own anxiety around.

Okay but baggage fees are a real thing you can just pay for. Sometimes having the right stuff is worth the extra cost, especially if it makes the trip less stressful. Not everyone wants to do the whole ultra-minimalist thing. Feels like people make packing into this weird moral test when it's just... packing.
