Update: spent $11 on a rotisserie chicken and ate like a king for 4 days, but nobody told me about the carcass trick
So I grabbed one of those $4.99 rotisserie chickens from the grocery store near my apartment in Cleveland last Monday, mostly cause I was broke until payday and it was the cheapest hot food I could find. I stretched that thing across four dinners, tacos one night, a weird stir fry the next, sandwiches after that. But here is the thing I keep seeing people get wrong, they toss the bones and the skin and the soggy bits right in the trash. I threw all of it in a pot with a carrot, half an onion, and some salt, let it simmer for like two hours while I watched TV, and got almost a full quart of stock out of garbage. That stock turned into a pot of beans that fed me two more nights, so really that one bird was six meals for under twelve bucks total. I know this sounds like common sense to some of you but I genuinely never did it before and I felt like I cracked a code. Does anyone else save the bones or am I late to a party everybody already left?
