Hot take: my grocery bill dropped by almost $40 a week when I stopped buying pre-cut veggies

For about three months, I was grabbing those bags of chopped onions and peppers because they saved time. I switched to buying whole produce and doing the knife work myself on Sunday, and the difference in cost was huge. Has anyone else found one simple switch that made a big dent in their food spending?

Remember when they started selling peeled oranges in plastic tubs. Saw it at the store and just stared. Makes you wonder what's next, pre-chewed food. Your veggie story is the same idea, paying a crazy amount to skip two minutes of work. My roommate buys those pre-made hard boiled eggs and it drives me nuts. The markup for a little convenience is wild when you actually stop to look at it.

The pre-shredded cheese tax is just as bad.
