Tried wetting my bricks before laying them on a hot day and the mortar slid right off

I thought it'd help the bond like everyone says, but after 3 courses at a job in Dallas last July I had to rip them all out and start dry, has anybody else had this backfire on them when it's really humid out?

Well ain't that just the universe's way of testing your patience. Sounds like Mother Nature punked you good. You followed the old wisdom, got the bricks wet, and they decided to play slippery fish with your mortar. Maybe the humidity was already doing the soaking for you and you just overdid it. Live and learn, I guess - now you know what happens when the air is so thick you can drink it.

Yeah, you nailed it. I've had bricks do the exact same thing to me on a muggy summer day. Soaked them good and thought I was being smart, but they just slid around like they were greased. What I do now is check the weather and the humidity levels first. If it's already thick out, I just mist the bricks lightly instead of soaking them. Makes a world of difference.
