Shoutout to the old head in Tulsa who said my mortar was too wet, he was right
Was laying a block wall out near Tulsa last month and an older mason stopped by to chat while I was mixing. He picked up a trowel of my mortar, let it slide off, and said it was basically soup. I got pretty defensive at first but he showed me how it should hold a ridge when you cut it with the trowel. Next day I cut back my water by about a quarter and the blocks stopped sliding around on me. Any of you got a go-to way to check mix consistency without overthinking it?
