Shoutout to the guy on my crew who told me to quit buttering the head joint so far ahead
I was laying 8 inch block on a garage in Boise and kept getting ahead of myself, spreading mortar 3 or 4 blocks out before I even set the one I was on. He told me flat out that I was asking for a cold joint and I brushed it off at first, but then he made me tap a block that had been sitting there 15 minutes and it slid way too easy. How far ahead do you all butter, one block, two, or do you just go by how hot it is out?
