Spent 11 days trying to teach my goldfish to swim through a hoop, and I'm starting to think fish training is a scam
So I got into fish training about three weeks ago because I saw a video of a guy in Osaka getting his betta to jump through a ring, and I thought, how hard can it be. Turns out very hard, at least for me and my $12 feeder goldfish named Kevin. I built a little hoop out of a zip tie and a straw, taped it to the side of the 10 gallon tank in my kitchen, and started trying to lure him through with frozen bloodworms. For 11 straight days I sat there for 20 minutes every morning before work and 20 minutes after, and Kevin just stared at me like I was the dumb one. I tried a target stick, I tried feeding only near the hoop, I tried moving the hoop slowly, I even watched a 45 minute YouTube video from a guy in Ohio who trains koi, and still nothing. Then on day 12 I realized the filter current in my tank was pushing him sideways every time he got near the hoop, so I turned the flow down and he went through it twice in like 30 seconds. I felt like an idiot but also kind of proud, and now I want to try teaching him to push a tiny soccer ball. Anyone else keep fish and try this stuff, or am I the only one losing sleep over a goldfish?
