Spent 6 weeks fixing our sauce brand's label and a customer called it "the ketchup one" in a review
So I run brand stuff for a small food company, right, and back in March we did a full refresh on our packaging because sales were flat for like 8 months straight. New colors, new font, we even paid a designer $3,200 to nail the whole look. I spent weeks going back and forth on the label copy with our founder, like genuinely losing sleep over whether the tagline sounded too corporate. We finally launch it, and I'm feeling good, and then last Tuesday I'm scrolling reviews and this lady writes "tastes fine but it's the ketchup one with the weird bottle." That was it. Six weeks of work and the whole thing got boiled down to "the ketchup one." I screenshot it and sent it to our group chat and nobody even responded because they were all at lunch. The part that kills me is she's not wrong, the bottle does look a little like a ketchup bottle now that I stare at it. I keep telling myself one review doesn't mean anything but I've been checking our shelf photos against competitors like a weirdo all week. How do you all handle it when your big brand work gets flattened into one sentence by somebody who doesn't care at all?
