Why does nobody talk about invasive bamboo taking over backyards?

Three summers ago I planted a small clump of bamboo near my fence in Portland, thought it was the contained kind. Last month I found shoots pushing up through my neighbor's patio slabs and under the shed foundation, it spread about 40 feet in one season. Has anyone else dealt with bamboo digging into their garden beds, and is there any way to stop it without nuking the whole yard with chemicals?

Tbh I read something last year about how bamboo rhizomes can travel way further than people expect, like 20 feet or more, and that clay soil makes them pop up sideways instead of going deep. Your situation sounds exactly like that. I've heard digging a trench around it and sinking metal or thick plastic sheeting about 2 feet down can slow it down a lot, but you gotta check for shoots every spring or they'll laugh at your efforts. Ngl, if it's already under the patio, you might be fighting this for years unless you're ready to dig up everything and pull the roots by hand.
