My neighbor's sad rose bush came back to life in one month

I saw it every day and it was just a few brown sticks with maybe two leaves. He said he started giving it a special food for roses and more water, like a full gallon three times a week. After about four weeks, it had over twenty new green leaves and three pink buds. Has anyone else had a plant look dead but then get better fast?

Yeah that "special food for roses" is probably a fertilizer with a high middle number for blooms. A full gallon of water three times a week is a lot, but it shows how thirsty they get when they're trying to bounce back.

Roses are dramatic like that, mine sulked for weeks after I moved them to a sunnier spot. Gave them bone meal and they perked up way faster than I expected, guess that middle number really matters for pushing out blooms. Kai's hydrangea story reminds me of my grandma who swore by banana peels for her flowers, worked like a charm every time.

Tried that same trick benlewis mentioned on my sad hydrangea. The new growth came in so fast it was crazy.
