My aunt in Oregon made me rethink how I prune roses
She told me I was cutting them back way too late in the season and showed me her blooms that were twice the size of mine. Has anyone else had a family member drop some gardening wisdom that totally changed their approach?

What time of year did she say you SHOULD be cutting them back?

Did your aunt say anything about how far down to cut? My neighbor in Ohio swore by cutting hybrid teas back to just above a bud that faced outward, and I thought she was nuts until I tried it. The difference in how open the center of the bush got was pretty striking, all that air flow kept the black spot away way better than my old method of just hacking everything to knee height.
