Old bone folder finally gave out, picked up a cheap alternative at a craft fair

I used the same cow bone folder for 12 years, got it from a shop outside Portland, and it snapped clean while pressing a textbook spine last week. I grabbed a plastic one from a vendor at the county fair for $8 just to finish the job, and honestly it glides smoother on the paper. Anyone else stuck with a plastic tool they expected to hate but kept using?
