Appreciation post: My first successful rounded spine on a rebind

I've been trying to get a proper rounded spine for like 6 months now. Every time I tried, the spine would come out flat or have weird bumps. Last weekend I finally got one that actually looks like a real book. The trick was wetting the spine slightly before backing it, which I read about in some old forum post from 2012. I used a spray bottle with distilled water, just a light mist, and let it sit for 30 seconds before hammering. Came out smooth and round. Has anyone else tried this method or do you just use a backing hammer dry?

You're basically telling spine gods to step aside for a spray bottle.
