Shoutout to the librarian who caught me judging a book by its movie for 10 years
For years I would skip any movie based on a book if I had already read the book, because I was sure the movie would ruin it, and I sat through the whole first season of a show based on a novel I loved in high school while complaining to my wife every single night about how wrong it was. Last month my sister handed me her copy of the book and said the show got her through a rough winter in Duluth, so I finally reread it and realized the show had added a whole subplot with the brother that made way more sense than the book's ending. Has anyone else gone back to a book after hating the adaptation and ended up liking the show more?
Reread the book after your feelings settle, not right after the finale, because fresh anger makes you nitpick stuff that doesn't actually matter. My sister did the exact same thing with Outlander and now she's the one defending the show.
