Our club blew 6 weeks on one 400 page novel and half the group quit. Was it worth it?
We picked a dense 400 page novel back in March and gave everyone 6 weeks to finish it. By week 4, three people had dropped out and two more admitted they were only on page 80. The ones who finished say it was the best discussion we have ever had, and the ones who quit say a book club should not feel like homework. Now we cannot agree on whether to keep picking long books or cap everything at 250 pages. How do you all handle a book that splits the group like this?
