Our book club argued for 2 hours over pacing, then one member pulled up the page count breakdown and it was obvious
We spent a whole meeting debating whether the middle of The Count of Monte Cristo dragged, but when Sarah counted scenes per chapter and mapped them on the whiteboard, it was clear the abridged version we all read at 16 was better and I can't believe we wasted that much time on feelings instead of data, has anyone else tried comparing editions like this?

Honestly, I gotta push back on the "feelings instead of data" thing. That whiteboard session sounds like it killed the actual fun of debating, which is the whole point of a book club. Tbh, the page count breakdown just tells you where things are, not if the pacing feels right, and reading the abridged version at 16 hits different when you're older and actually want the slow burn.
