My book club fought over the ending of The Great Alone for 2 hours straight

Back in 2019 my Anchorage group would just nod along to whatever the host picked, but last Tuesday someone called the survival ending unrealistic and suddenly half the room was arguing about Alaska bush life vs the book's drama. Has anyone else had a debate get so heated that people started quoting specific page numbers at each other?

That book club sounds way more fun than mine. I read an interview with Kristin Hannah where she admitted she based the survival stuff on real Alaska homesteader stories, so the drama isn't that far off. Page number quoting is the highest tier of book debate, honestly. My group once got loud about whether a character's betrayal made sense in a thriller, but we just looked up the chapter on someone's phone. Still, two hours on one ending means everyone actually cared, which beats the usual polite nodding. Did anyone change their mind after all that, or did people just dig in harder?
