Funny how a book can just click for someone if you frame it right. For me, it was the same thing with "The Road." I hated the bleakness of it at first, you know? Depressing stuff. Then a friend pointed out how the love between the father and son was the whole point, not just the grim scenery. That shift made me see it completely different, like a lightbulb moment for the whole story. Maybe that's what happened with "The Goldfinch" for you too.
