A member told me my book club questions were too safe

About two years ago, after our group finished 'The Overstory', a regular named Karen said, 'Your questions just get us to agree on the plot. Ask something that makes us argue.' I realized I was picking questions from the back of the book. Now I spend an hour before each meeting writing one 'fight starter' question that has no clear answer. It's made our talks way better. What's a book that sparked a real debate in your group?

Fight starter questions" is such a good idea. I heard a podcast where a club leader said the best discussions come from questions the author couldn't answer. We read "American Dirt" and just arguing about the author's right to tell that story took up the whole hour.
