I don't track wins in Wingspan anymore and game night got way better
Everyone in my group at the store on Elm Street keeps a running score sheet and I bowed out of that back in March. I love Wingspan but counting points after every single round turned game night into a math test and nobody was actually talking to each other. Now we just play 2 or 3 games, no totals, and people stay till midnight instead of packing up at 9. Does anyone else skip the scoring or am I the only one who thinks the fun got buried under the numbers?
Is it weird that I was the guy with the spreadsheet for like two years? I had a whole tab for bonus cards and end of round goals and I would get annoyed if people talked during my counting. Then one night my friend just said "dude, nobody cares who won" and it kind of hit me. Last week we played three games and I could not tell you a single final score, but I remember laughing at someone's raven placement for ten minutes. The games go way faster too, we set up again right away instead of doing math for twenty minutes. My old group would have called this crazy but honestly the scores never made the games more fun, they just made me quieter.
