Tried rewatching The Wire with my wife and the disc froze at episode 8, now she refuses to start over
Honestly, we were 8 episodes deep into season 2 and the third disc from the library set just stopped working during the big scene. I checked it at home and the back looked like someone used it as a coaster, scratches everywhere. We waited 3 days for the library to get another copy and by then she was done with it. Anyone got a fix for scratched discs that actually works, or do I just buy the season on sale somewhere?

Ugh, library discs are the worst for this. Something nobody mentioned yet, that scratch could be the library's problem, not yours. Most libraries will waive the replacement fee if you tell them the disc was already damaged when you checked it out, so don't let them charge you for it. As for the season itself, just buy it used on eBay for like five bucks, way less hassle than waiting on another loan. And honestly, season 2 is the one people quit on anyway, so if she's out, maybe start her fresh on season 3 or just hand her season 1 again later.
