Saw a whole shelf of season 1 box sets at a Goodwill in Reno and it bugged me
I stopped in the Goodwill on South Virginia last Saturday and found about 30 season 1 box sets of shows that got cancelled after one year. It was like a graveyard of recommendations, all lined up for $3 each. Somebody clearly gave up on them all at once, which means they probably got hooked on disc one and then found out there was no disc two. My advice is to check how many seasons a show actually has before you start, or you end up like whoever donated that pile. Has anyone else gotten burned by a one season show that just ends on a cliffhanger?
Watched it happen with books too, not just shows. My library used to have this whole row of first books in series that nobody ever finished because the next one never came out or the author just gave up. Same thing at yard sales, you see book one for a quarter and books two through seven nowhere. It's like the world keeps selling us the start of things and hiding the ending somewhere we can't find it. Half the stuff in my house is a first chapter of something I never got to finish. Makes you wonder if the person who donated those box sets just wanted one clean ending for once.
