Finally finished The Leftovers after 3 false starts, what a ride

I kept quitting this show after the first episode like 3 times over two years because it felt too weird and slow. Last month I forced myself through episode 4 and suddenly I couldnt stop, finished all 3 seasons in 8 days. The way the music and the silences build tension is something I've never seen in another series. Did anyone else need a couple tries before this one clicked for you, or was it an instant hook?
