Vent: my old boss said my emails were too long and honestly she had a point
I worked at a staffing office in Boise for 3 years and thought my emails were fine until my manager sat me down and said nobody reads past the first two lines. She showed me one I sent that was 11 sentences long just to ask about a schedule swap. I was mad for a week, but then I started cutting every email down to 3 lines max and people actually started replying the same day. Now I'm job hunting and wondering if I should put "writes short emails" on my resume, ha. Did anyone else get a work critique that stung at first but turned out to be right?
Did she really show you the whole 11 sentences though, or just the first couple lines that made her point? Getting feedback that lands doesn't always mean the whole note was bad, sometimes it's just too long for the ask.
