Torque wrench vs. feel, I finally switched after 22 years of guessing

I learned to wrench on old steel frames back in the 90s and always did bolts by feel. Snug plus a quarter turn, that was my rule. Last month I put a new carbon seatpost on a customer's bike and cracked the clamp because I went too far. It was a $40 part but the customer stood right there watching me do it. That was the moment. Now I use a beam style torque wrench on anything carbon or aluminum with small bolts. It takes me an extra 30 seconds per bolt but I haven't stripped or cracked anything since. Has anyone else made the switch late in their career? What made you finally give in to the torque spec numbers?
