I used to think a 10mm wrench was fine for everything until a stripped bolt cost me a customer's fork

Fine for everything" is a dangerous way to think about tools. A 10mm is a specific size for a reason. Using it on a 12mm bolt head because it's close enough is asking for trouble. That's how you round things off and end up with a bigger problem than you started with. The right tool for the job isn't just a saying, it's how you avoid stripping bolts.

Diana829 is right, but my toolbox used to be a monument to lazy hope. I learned the hard way that a 10mm is a suggestion, not a command. My collection of rounded bolts agrees.
