Tried freehanding a fade on a 4-year-old and it went exactly how you'd think

So my nephew came over last Saturday and asked for a haircut like mine. I figured hey I've been cutting for 2 years now how hard can a kid be? About 30 seconds in he started squirming and I accidentally took a chunk out of his crown area. I mean like a bald spot the size of a quarter. His mom walked in right when I was trying to blend it with a 1 guard and she just started laughing. Turns out she's a cosmetologist and she showed me how to use clipper over comb on kids instead of free handing. Now I always have a parent stand behind the kid with a tablet playing Bluey. Anyone else have a kid haircut go sideways on them? I need to hear I'm not alone.

Doesn't it seem like every project gets at least twice as complicated when a kid is involved? You can prep all you want but they have their own agenda and patience is not part of it. Nothing builds humility faster than thinking you've got a skill down and having a toddler prove you wrong.

Toddlers are just tiny bosses who didn't read the manual
