Swapped from clipper-over-comb to shears for neck tapers 3 months ago

Used to think clippers were faster for blending down the back, but shears give me way cleaner lines and less irritation for the client. Anyone else make the switch and notice a difference?

Thought clippers were the only way to go for years, figured speed mattered more than anything for neck tapers. But after I actually tried shears a few months back, I totally changed my mind. The blend comes out way smoother and I don't get those little razor bumps or irritation lines on the back of the neck anymore. Takes a little longer but the end result looks cleaner and clients appreciate not feeling like they got scratched up. Definitely worth the extra time once you get the hang of it.

Read a barber years ago talk about how clippers are for speed but shears are for art, and that always stuck with me... Makes total sense now seeing comments like this. The irritation lines are the worst, I've had clients come in complaining about that exact thing from other shops. Once you slow down and learn the angle with shears, the whole neckline just flows better instead of looking like a straight line was stamped on there. It's like the difference between mowing a lawn with a tractor versus trimming the edges by hand... both get the job done but one looks way more finished. Clients definitely notice even if they can't explain what's different.
