Stopped using clippers on the back of the neck first and my fades got way cleaner
Honestly I was fighting the same problem for months where my fades looked fine on the sides but the back of the neck always had this shadow line I could not kill no matter how many times I went over it. Tbh the fix was dumb simple, I started doing the neckline and the bottom of the fade FIRST with a #1 guard before I touched anything else, then worked my way up instead of starting at the top like I always did. Ngl it felt wrong the first few cuts because your eye wants to build the fade from the top down, but starting low means you set your bottom line while the hair is still full and you can see exactly where you need to blend. I did it on 6 clients at my chair in Fresno over a week and every single one of them came out with a cleaner taper than what I was getting before. The other thing is it saves me like 3 or 4 minutes a cut since I am not going back to fix the bottom after I already faded the top. My coworker watched me do it and said I was cutting backwards but then he tried it on his next guy and shut up about it. Has anyone else flipped their order like this or am I the only one who was doing it the hard way for way too long?
