Rant: the old barber in Lansing who said my fades looked like "steps on a ladder"
About 6 months ago a guy who has been cutting hair for 30 years came through my shop in Lansing and watched me do a fade. He didn't say much, then he pointed at my guideline and said it looked like steps on a ladder. That stung but he was right, I was rushing my blend and skipping half guards. He had me slow down and go over each zone twice with the lever half open, and I mean actually slow, like 8 passes on the same spot. My fades got smoother in a month and I stopped getting the "can you fix this line" walk ins. He said something I still think about, that the clipper does the work and your hand just holds it steady. Anyone here ever had an old timer break down your technique like that and you had to swallow your pride?
