Hot debate at the barber expo in Chicago last month: clipper over comb vs. scissor over comb for fading?

I watched two old school barbers go at it on stage about which one gives a cleaner blend and now I'm second guessing my whole approach, which side do you lean on for a tight fade?

I've been fading for about 12 years now and I'll tell you, clipper over comb is the way to go for a tight blend. If you want that crisp, close-to-the-skin fade from a 0 up to a 2, clipper over comb lets you control the taper much better. Scissor over comb is fine for longer styles or when you're working with softer hair, but for a hard fade it just doesn't give you the same precision. I switched to clipper over comb for all my fades about 5 years ago and my regulars noticed the difference right away. Just make sure your comb is flat against the head and you're not digging in.

I watched that same debate online. Scissor over comb for me every time, it just leaves a softer line.
