Client said 'just make it look good' and then hated every detail

Had a guy in the chair Tuesday, new client from a referral, and he kept saying 'do whatever you think is best.' So I gave him a clean textured crop, took about 35 minutes with the clippers and scissors. He stared at it for a solid minute and then complained the fade was too high. I asked him what he actually wanted, and he said 'something that looks good.' It's like pulling teeth when they won't give you a straight answer. Anyone else run into clients who refuse to communicate but still get mad at the result?
