Oh man, I learned this the hard way. I watched it by myself last year and spent the whole time just staring at the screen, completely silent. My roommate came home and found me like that, and I had to explain that a movie about goblins made me question my entire taste in entertainment. Younger me had some truly questionable solo movie nights.

Keep a funny show queued up for after weird movies like that.

That part about questioning your entire taste after a solo movie night really sticks with me. I see this bigger pattern where we all tend to overthink our own choices when there's no one else around to laugh or cringe with us. It's like solo activities lose their context and become these serious tests of our personality (I get the same way after reading a bad book alone). But sharing an experience, even a bad one, turns it into a shared moment instead of a private judgment. Your silent stare when your roommate came home shows how having a witness changes everything from a crisis to a story. We really shouldn't let our alone time make us doubt what we like.
