Rant: The Room is bad but is it actually a fun watch?
I finally sat through The Room last weekend and I'm torn. On one hand, the acting and writing are a trainwreck, but on the other hand, my buddies and I were laughing the whole time during that football scene. Is it just bad enough to be entertaining, or does it cross into boring territory after the first hour? What's your take on where the line is between so bad it's good and just plain unwatchable?

Wait, is it bad that I actually bought a second hand football after watching that scene and tried to recreate it in my backyard with my buddy? I mean, the movie is a total mess but I feel like the definition of "so bad it's good" really depends on your tolerance for awkward silences and nonsensical dialogue. For me, it crosses into boring territory when the plot holes start piling up faster than Tommy Wiseau's hair flips, somewhere around the second hour. The key is to watch it with friends who can riff on it, because alone I think I'd just be confused and frustrated. Honestly though, I've sat through way worse movies that weren't even funny, so at least The Room gave me like 45 minutes of good unintentional comedy before it lost me.

That football scene is genuinely hilarious though, idk what it is about grown men throwing a pigskin around in slow motion that just gets me every time. For me, what saved the experience was doing a drinking game with rules for every time Tommy says something random or there's a random spoon photo on the wall. Actually broke that into three separate sittings with a couple buddies, and by the end we were just laughing at how bad the acting was during the rooftop scene. Maybe it's just me but I'd say give it another shot with a group and some snacks, it turns from boring to funny real quick when you're not taking it seriously.
