Switched my pack weight method after a trip in the Sierras
For years I just threw stuff in my pack and hoped for the best. Last summer on a 5 day route near Yosemite, I weighed my bag at the trailhead and it was 52 pounds. Halfway up a pass I realized I was miserable. I sat down, dumped everything out, and only kept items under 8 ounces each. I cut 14 pounds that morning by leaving behind extra clothes and a big camp chair. Now I weigh every single item on a small scale before I leave the house. Has anyone else had a wake up call about pack weight mid trip?

My first trip with a new 45 liter pack I stuffed it full and hit the trail at 48 pounds. My back was screaming by mile 3. I dumped out a heavy fleece and a whole cook kit I barely used, just boiled water in a cup instead. That saved me about 6 pounds and now I weigh everything too, even my spoon.
