Bought a $340 ultralight tent, then ditched it for a $45 tarp setup

I kept blowing money on fancy shelters because the forums said so. One rainy night in the Smokies with a tarp and trekking poles changed my mind, my pack is 2 pounds lighter now. Anyone else dump the expensive gear after a trip where the cheap option just worked?

Tarp setups still get eaten by bugs no matter what the forums claim.
